What does 3D mean?
Length, width, and depth are the three dimensions. Young children learn about form, shape, and texture by touching and manipulating various materials. Providing different opportunities to play with and create 3D constructions is essential for good spatial perception and understanding of the world around them.
Clay is just one way of experimenting with 3D play. Other types of 3D experiences include things such as
- Block play
- Creating with recycled materials such as paper tubes and empty spools
- Imaginative play, such as dollhouses, cars, and more!
However, creating 3D art provides some additional benefits, such as an understanding of proportion, depth, and structure. In other words, creating a frog with a head the size of a baseball and legs the size of a dime would work on paper, but not with clay!

Frog Craft How-tos
To start this cute preschool frog craft, divide the green clay among the students. The children squeeze and knead the dough until it is soft and pliable. This is a great fine motor muscle workout! Then the students roll out legs and bodies and carve a mouth with a toothpick.
Next, using a dot of school glue, the students glue on the eyes. Finally, once the frog is complete, it is arranged on the green cupcake paper lily pad. Use more liquid school glue to keep it in place. Add a little piece of pink tissue paper for a lily.
Model magic will air dry within just a few hours!

Take this craft and get jumpin’ on over to the art table to get the fun started! This preschool frog craft can also be part of a bigger project. Complete the frogs and add them to an adorable pond mural.
