Each morning when my Pre-K’s arrive, they complete “Morning Work.” These little file folder games help reinforce lots of kindergarten readiness skills– letter identification, initial sounds, rhyming, counting, number recognition, sorting, etc.
Over the course of the last 8 years I have made and acquired over 100 file folder games! Even with so many to choose from, we often find that there is a skill that the students need to practice more and we don’t have enough choices in our arsenal. So, I have started to design a few new games. I am pleasantly surprised at how nice these turned out!
The front of the folder has the skill– in this case sorting words that begin with M and P.
On the back, I attach a plastic baggie for the pieces, and a checklist so that we can keep track of the students progress. I use a – + system and have a little space to make notes if necessary.
This is definitely one of our most effective literacy activities and one of the best uses of 5-10 minutes with Pre-K students. I uploaded the free file on TpT. Feel free to download it here and print it off for your preschooler. (And if you’re inclined to leave me a rating or feedback about the game, I’d really appreciate it!)
