Easy, Quick, & Customized!
As a preschool teacher, the days quickly fill up with songs, clean-up, experiments, giggling kids, and much more! Being able to sit down and plan quality lessons and practice pages for students to learn important skills, such as recognizing and writing their names, sometimes seems like a far-off dream. But it doesn’t have to be that way!
What’s more, teachers need resources that help them to plan smarter. They need things that take less time to create and minimize stress. Think about it – if the teacher is putting in all the work to imagine, plan, create, and implement a lesson – who is doing more work, the teacher or the student? Using resources like these preschool name practice pages can help reduce the time needed for planning while creating customized pages for every student.
These preschool name practice packs customize easily to the specific students in the classroom. Gone are the days of spending hours creating name packs for students. Simply open the class list in Adobe, type the students’ names, and voilá! The entire class will auto-populate into personalized pages for each student.
Once the class list is complete, print the student activity pages, cut apart the hands-on activity, and everything is ready to go. For an upgrade in organization, prepare a name binder for each student. Punch holes in the practice pages and place an envelope on the inside cover of the binder. The teacher can add new pages each month, and the hands-on activity can be swapped out. The binders not only keep the work neat and tidy, but it is a great way to show student progression throughout the year.

Letter of the Week is not the best way!
When students come to school the first week, unless their name is Alice (or Adam or Annie, etc.), they probably have no desire to learn about the letter A. And yet, many preschool classrooms continue to teach using a Letter of the Week model. All aspects of the day, from read-aloud to art projects, focus on things that begin with a particular letter. But when you stop and think about it, who is doing the work here? Who is planning the activities that start with that letter? Who is creating the stations that have the acorn art projects? And who is simply coming in, listening to the books and creating their art projects, then going home?
When teaching a letter in isolation, students are simply being told about the letter. They are told what words start with the letter or shown objects that begin with the letter. But let’s clear the air here because telling is not teaching. And where most teachers that have used the Letter of the Week model previously have all the best intentions, we need to recognize that there is a better way.
Practicing the Most Important Word – Their Name!
A student’s name is the most important word in their life. It is the first word they learn to read, write, recognize and spell. Once that happens, a domino effect of learning happens. Students begin to recognize other things that start with the same letter, such as Michael knowing that “Mommy” begins with an M, like his own name.
Additionally, when focusing on student names, classmates begin to recognize their friends’ names. So while Michael makes connections to the letter M in real life, he also starts to pick up on things that begin with S, like his best friend Seth’s name. It is these authentic experiences that allow preschool students to learn and make connections with the alphabet.
