Many art projects are two-dimensional, but these pipe cleaner rainbow sculptures take art up another level and pop off the page! Inspired by Still Playing School, this is sure to be a hit in the preschool classroom.
With just a few supplies and a lot of imagination, these rainbow sculptures can provide unlimited fun to students of any age!
Supplies Needed for Rainbow Sculptures
- colorful pipe cleaners
- cotton balls
- rectangular pieces of sytrofoam
Set-Up and Play
Preschool students do not require much direction when it comes to creating these rainbow sculptures. Soon their imaginations run wild, and the results are amazing. And with quick setup and minimal supplies, this art project is a teacher’s dream come true.
To begin, lay out the supplies listed above at the art center. The styrofoam pieces act as a base and allow students to insert the pipe cleaners in many different directions.
Allow the students to use the materials to create whatever they wish. Many will make rainbows, making this a great addition when studying a colors unit or doing other rainbow activities. For even more fine motor practice, model how to make coils by wrapping pipe cleaners around a pencil.
