How To Create One-of-a-Kind Art
Creating stamped wrapping paper is a great way to incorporate meaningful process art into the preschool classroom. Students need minimal adult direction. More importantly, the students can express their personality directly in the art.
First, cover the work area with a disposable plastic tablecloth or inexpensive shower curtain – it contains the mess and makes clean-up a breeze! Lay a large sheet of white butcher paper at each student’s workspace and drizzle a small amount of paint onto paper plates. Lay out cookie cutters in a variety of shapes.
Next, provide students with smocks before beginning to stamp. Once they are fully smocked, the sky is the limit! Students dip the cookie cutters into the paint, and then stamp the paper. There is no rhyme or reason for how the shapes need to be placed either. Students may decide to overlap the shapes, or create patterns…it’s all okay!
When the student decides their masterpiece is complete, write their initials somewhere on the piece and hang it to dry. Once it is fully dried, the paper can be used as unique, personally-created wrapping paper for all kinds of gifts. (Need some inspiration for easy gifts that preschoolers can make?
