Welcome to our “Art & Artists” Circle Time video playlist! This week, your little learners will explore the colorful and creative world of famous artists. Hosted by Ms. Jamie and her playful puppet, Betsy the Blackbird, this playlist is designed for preschoolers and PreK children aged 3–5. Each video in the Online Circle Time series offers a fun and educational 30-minute session, introducing kids to artists Frida Kahlo, Wassily Kandinsky, Frank Lloyd Wright, Yayoi Kusama, and Henri Matisse. Your little ones will love discovering different styles, techniques, and the joy of making their own art inspired by these incredible creators!
let’s paint like kahlo
Learn about Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican artist known for her colorful self-portraits. We’ll practice saying six basic colors in Spanish and play a memory game with paint palette colors. For the home project, kids can print a black-and-white photo of themselves and paint it in bright, creative ways. We’ll finish with I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More by Karen Beaumont, a fun, rhyming read-aloud.
let’s draw like kandinsky
Let’s dive into the colorful world of Wassily Kandinsky and his famous “Concentric Circles” art. Kids will sing a shapes song while tracing shapes in the air and play a grid game with red, yellow, and blue blocks. For the home project, they’ll fold paper into fourths and fill each section with their own colorful concentric circles. We’ll also enjoy The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, a story about finding your artistic voice.
let’s build like wright
We’ll learn about Frank Lloyd Wright and what it means to be an architect while looking at his amazing buildings and blueprints. Kids will sing “Old MacDonald Built a House” and build with the felt board, then test their memory with a tools tray activity. For the home project, they’ll design their own building using clay, play dough, or model magic. We’ll finish with Dreaming Up by Christy Hale for inspiration.
let’s create like kusama
Kusama Yayoi’s bright, polka-dotted art inspires today’s activities, starting with photos of her famous “Obliteration Room.” Kids will make AB and AAB patterns using art supplies and practice counting 1-10 with the “One Little Polka Dot” tens frame game. At home, they’ll draw their own picture and cover it in colorful stickers. The day wraps up with Elmer by David McKee, a story about standing out.
we’re artists like matisse
Henri Matisse’s colorful cut-paper art sets the stage as we explore “The Snail” and sing “Ten Little Crayons” with flannel board visuals. Children will strengthen memory skills with an art supply tray game. At home, they’ll practice scissors skills and create their own shape collage. We’ll finish by enjoying Luna Loves Art by Joseph Coehlo.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has a website full of activities and gorgeous art to explore. If you aren’t near NYC, no worries – much of their collection is viewable online as well.
