About the Preschool:
Play to Learn Preschool opened in the fall of 2005 with one goal: to create an exceptional environment where children could play to learn. We are fortunate to have a large classroom with many centers, including dramatic play, dress-up, technology, art, table games, blocks, a sensory table, a classroom library, and more. Each day the students participate in circle time, centers, music & movement, snack, outdoor play, and story time. We believe that every child deserves to be valued, loved, and to have a ton of fun.
When I was just a preschooler myself, I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up– a teacher! After completing my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, I taught 2nd grade and absolutely loved it. I was in a vibrant, brand-new school with a group of the most fabulous, Type-A, creative and brilliant teachers. I completed my Master’s in Reading Education and enjoyed teaching professional development workshops in Word Study. What an incredible beginning to my career!
During my tenure as a 2nd grade teacher, I had 2 children in 15 months. Finding the balance between being a mom and being the classroom teacher that I wanted to be proved nearly impossible. I would either leave school early and feel great about spending the evening with my young children, then arrive the next morning to feel panicked and unprepared. Or, I would stay late and work my tail off getting everything ready in my classroom, and then cry myself to sleep because I barely had an hour with my kids and it was spent giving them a bath and putting them to bed. There had to be a better solution!
I could not quit teaching. (The thought of having to store all of my teaching supplies gives me nightmares!) I knew, though, that something had to change. So I created Play to Learn Preschool with the hope that I could do both– be a teacher and a mom– at the same time.
